My buddy showed me a picture of another guy that caught a 60+ pound catfish out of a resaca in Brownsville the other day, that cat is amazing. I have blown off my buddy a few times when he told me that there are some monster cats, buffalofish, carp and gar in that resaca. Now I do believe, I am heading over there with him this evening and part of the night to fish with him,,,made some sliding weights on some wire coated leaders to 30 lbs braids. We'll be using shads, ballyhoo and some other baits he knows of. He chummed out there this morning and yesterday evening with his secret chumballs. He has caught several carp and buffalo in the 15-20 lbs range. Just a bam, bam, thank you maam catch and release.   Wink We do not plan on keeping any fish from the resaca, I would not eat it.  I'll take some pics and post a report soon, my first freshwater resaca fishing.

On a side note, have any of you guys eaten fish from a resaca?   Shocked

Just got back, my buddy caught a fresh water drum, and I caught a 3 foot gar and a 5 lb big mouth bass, nothing worth bragging about. I had some big chunks of tilapia thrown out, something had taken the chunks for a ride for about three to four minutes before I set the hook, nothing .  Huh? Gar are known to swim with the baits for a while before eating.

Its been years since I have done any resaca fishing. I remember as a kid going out with my dad and fishing for catfish and gar. We used to eat all the fish we caught and they were fine. Not sure which resaca your fishing but most have the water replaced as the farmers are irrigating so it should be clean water most of the time.

I've always wondered if those little ponds and oxbow type lakes/ponds in the Brownsville area held fish or not.  They just seem so perfect for bass and catfish.  But then I heard they drain them sometimes which would not be conducive for holding a healthy fish population.  Anyway, I have also noticed a couple of these on the right side (south side) when heading to SPI and wonder if they are fresh, salt or brackish.  Anyone know?  Anyway, can you tell me where the resacas are that hold fish.  I'd love to go out and try my luck.

Where is this resaca located? I'd love to hit it.  I usually fish on a resaca off of Robindale, there are some good bass there.
