I was reading an article in the Rockport Pilot paper regarding Cedar Bayou.  Ron Matson (person writing the article) said that they were heading to Cedar Bayou. At the start of the bayou and entrance to Mesquite Bay he encountered some dredging being done.   Anyone know about this and what is being done?  Can a boat go into the bayou and how far?  Has a permit been issued?

Texredfish, I have had several calls about that very article. I do not know of any permits that have been issued to anyone to dredge any place near the bayou. I plan to go over there and check it out for myself. At this point in time, I could only wish that a dredge was over there doing what should have been done years ago. The bayou channel is silted up pretty good. You can go up into the channel, but not to far. As for the permit, we should see it this month. But sadly we do not have it yet. On a sad note, a 60 year old lady has fallen victim to Vibrio. It appears that her son bought raw oysters from a local fish house in Fulton. The Vibrio hit her very quickly after she consumed the oysters and she passed in a matter of a few days. She was healthy, with no medical problems. I think she is the first Vibrio victim this year. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends. Please people, do not eat raw oysters that come from this bay system. The conditions are just right for Vibrio. Low salinity, warm water. If you fish in this system, please be careful.  I will let all of you know what I find over at the bayou. If anyone happens to go over there please take a picture. Get a number off of that dredge if you can. We might want to send them a thank you card.

OK Lynn, what did you find out? Also, have they stated that they will be issuing a dredging permit?
