Hello I love to fish for Alligator gar but have not been able to find a good spot to fish for quite some time now. I use to go down close to Rio Hondo on FM 1420 a little feeder canal that was just great for gar and reds. our bigest catch there was a 7ft gar. but now that place does not have much water and is no longer a good spot to fish due to that. anywhere here in the valley would be great if you would like to share some info on a good spot I would really be grateful to you. and any tips to how or what you use to reel them in.
Thanks

I remember a friend of mine took me to a place in Progreso that was called El Relampago. (Spell Check). He has caught some gar there but that time I went we didn't catch anything. Border Patrol is pretty tight right now because of everything going on in Mexico.

yup, el relampago used to be good for gar, but its way overfished, and true, the border patrol never leaves you alone... just a couple of miles north on 491 theres this brown water arroyo, that place hold a hell of a lot of gar, just last week i saw one about 5 feet long right in front of me... same week i caught a huge catfish there, after struggling with it for a while it finally came up, showed its tail and snapped my line... by the way has anyone fished at the los indios reservoirs???

Lot of gar in the Arroyo between the liftbridge and arroyo city.  Saw a nice 6 footer Saturday night rolling in front of the fishing lights.
