      Hello Folks,

Breaking in some new fishermen and fishergirls can be a superfun experience. Well that just what we did. Here are some of the great moments of a young family learning to fish for the first time curiosity of Adrian Arzola of Brownsville Texas. You might say this wasn't Adrian's first pony ride.

Since the kids were in McAllen and we didn't want to get them up too early for their first trip so we decided to meet around 9:30 am out of White Sands in Port Isabel. The restaurant there has some killer monster tacos of which I believe is an important part of the whole fishing trip.......South Texas Con Todos.....don't get me started. After loading the  beautiful Mom, Kids, and Tacos, off we went toward our destination. Port Brownsville Ship Channel..........I call it the real Texas State Aquarium everything lives there it seems, at some point or other. The wind was predicted to be 20 to 30 knots. Well believe me it was everybit that and more. So we cranked up the radio up loud to  95.3 Jack FM and headed out into the miniature hurricane less the rain of course. We did get some overspray but the kids loved the whole bumpy ride dancing to the music to the rhythm of the big waves which was a truly Rock n Roll. Even Mom liked getting a little moist from the ride.

We arrive in a protected spot  dropped anchor and began fishing. Sure enough the larger Mangroves were ready to feast as they were super hungry. Everytime a shrimp went over board a hungry snapper erupted to greet the offering. I decided to try a small glow chad with a 3/4 ounce lead head. These snappers were happy to chow down on plastic as well as large live shrimp. Except for some pesky large lady fish everything went well. The children loved the skippers too because of there power, speed and Aeriel displays.  After an hour with lots of fish in the box it was time for those killer chorizo potato and egg tacos dowsed with lots of  red hotsauce. The kids were extra hungry after riding all those waves and nonstop fishing. We only fished one spot until we ran out of bait and the kids were getting worn out from their first saltwater fishing trip. One good rule to follow is to never overfish kids on their first trip  because they may not want to come back. So off we went back down wind this time with little waves and lighter wind issues. We cleaned the fish and the inquisitive children kept asking who was going to cook the fish so Adrian gave in and took them into White Sands Restaurant where the whole trip was completely consummated. They fried all those fish and had some left overs for the road. I heard later from Adrian they finished off everybit of those left overs the next day.  Thus, still reliving the whole event while snacking on fried Mangrove Snapper.

I am sure I will be seeing this wonderful family in the upcoming future. Christmas time will produce some more winter time hot fishing up the Brownsville Ship Channel if anyone wants to give a super special gift to their little ones or big ones.
