WRECK 'EM TECH

« on: Dec 07, 08 - 12:48:27 PM »

I took my neighbor and is brother-in-law on their first yak fishing trip yesterday. We launched at 7:00 and paddled 1/2 mile to a nearby marsh. The wind was nonexistent so I decided to try our luck on structure in the bay before we got to our destination.  My first 3 casts with the WAKER netted a 18" rat, 19 3/4" rat, 27 " slot.  We fished this pattern for about an hour while we waited for the sun to heat up the mud in the marsh. Once we got in the marsh I showed the newbies what to look for and how to work the baits. We were throwing spinnerbaits and soft plastics. The guys caught on real quick.  By 10:00 everyone had at least 2 upper slot Reds on the stringer. I said lets start hitting the back lakes in this marsh. I entered this small lake and saw at least 50 large reds schooling in the middle. There is only one way to enter or leave this pond so I positioned my yak so that It blocked the entrance. I caught and released at least 10 middle to upper slot redsi n about 30 minutes. I called my partners over and they both finished off their limits with upper slot reds. It seemed like when the sun got high and the mud warmed up enough that the reds really started feed aggressively and would hit anything you put in front of them. Here are a few pics:

Congratulations on your fishing trip.

Do you call this " corraling the cows" in the pen for a slaughter with your yak a legally sportmanship conduct and pick off the fish one by one while they are in a pen?

A tournament hosted by Red Raider is for me to think about.   Huh?

I have dreamed about that scenario many many times, though I never thought it would actually happen. But,when the opportunity presented itself I had to try it. Every one will have an equal shot at the tourney, just get out on the water and see what happens.
