Let's Go Fishing!

just a thought......  Many of us have been in a problem or two on the bay at different times.  But considering that there are many fishermen on this forum fishing in many different areas of our bays.  Is there not a way that we could make an emergency post for help and have a text go out to everyone.  At any given time one of us could be in the area in which we could be of help to a fellow fisherman.

I highly recommend that each of you get this app on your smart phone.  "Boat USA"  You don't have to be a member, but it gives you the ability to call for help and give your location on GPS.  Also it allows you to send a friend or family member an email of your exact GPS location.  The email will allow them to open directly to google maps.
And yes you can even use it to give our spouse our location.  :-(

Interesting app...don't know if it's on windows phone.  Anyway, as far as safety goes, I installed some ham radio equipment on my boat as soon as I could. Some areas down here have no cell reception and I know I can hit towers in La Feria from my boat with my ham rig.  If thats the case, reaching the various nearby towers will always have me in touch with someone. Its good piece of mind in an emergency, and its powered by my second battery. Of course, this is not an option for non-hams, but it has kept my mind at ease so much in my boat as it has in my truck.

I have a handheld marine VHF but I don't know how far 5 watts would go On The rubber duckie antena. Just far enough For a nearby boater to hear probably.

Glad all is good. With time you will realize what places you can access for how long depending on how fast the tide graph shows its falling. When i was a boating newb I ran onto a shallow bar believe me that was the last time I did that.
