Ok guys/gals looking for opinions on good poling skiffs that won't break the bank.  We fish in the AP area mainly and are used to kayak fishing so we're looking for stealth in a boat... that being said, I've been looking at poling skiffs and are wondering what ya think.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ernest

I run a polling skiff with a tunnel hull.  I fished from a yak for about 7 years before getting my boat.  My skiff can go to 95% of the places i fished out of a yak.  Some of my longtime kayak fishing buddies like to put their yaks on my boat and fish spots normally out of their reach.

You know, that's exactly what we're looking for.  We were thinking about getting a baby cat but I've been leaining towards the skiff.  We fish AP and was curious about running through the open bays.

I fished a Sterling TR7 for two years. As Red Raider said. it would go most anywhere a yak would, but with more creature comforts.

As for crossing the LLM it was rough and wet.  However, I soon learned to run the shorelines.  I sold it for a little larger more family friendly boat.  I do miss the Sterling's shallow water capability.

damn, that's very nice!  I cant wait for the houston international fishing show, I wonder if there will be any there to take a look at.  Or the San Antonio show for that matter.  I need to try to find local dealers to take a gander at some.

CAPT Mike Cook  specializes in the type of fishing you are talking about  and fishes the Rockport and AP area. i fish with him quite often and he swears by the Maverick. i am sure he will chime in here shortly and tell you what to look for. There is nothing like seeing a fish, casting to it and watching it take your lure. Especially big trout. It almost feels like hunting rather than fishing.

I agree bud, I sight cast 90% of the time because of that... its the reason why I bow hunt also.  I want a boat that it going to benefit my style of fishing more than anything.... I'm not worried about being dry, I wade most of the time also.
