Looking at buying a GPS. It's been foggy the last couple of times I've been out and have been waiting for it to clear up. Ran slow in the fog one day and got all screwed up on getting to my spot.
Any recommendations on hand helds or mounts? What do you guys use?

I use the Garmin 210 Explorist, I know it no longer produced but it gets me there and back every time.

Bought a combo Lowrance with a navionics maps chip.  Everything works great except for depth transducer, seems to be inaccurate. I tried to calibrate it and have been unsuccessful.

I've got a Lowrance HDS-5 (1st gen) and it seems to work fine with great screen to see in bright sun.  Question if y'all can help....depth only shows 1.7' and no shallower.  Is that normal or an anomaly?  Only used it three times.  Otherwise I love it.

Flat T. do you know what model transducer you have? It should be defined in the users manual for your model #...

Lowrance 5S combo.  The GPS is outstanding.  I have used it many times for night fishing and have not had any problems.  Allows you to follow your route and safe in the safe zone.  I use a dual transducer and have not had any trouble in the shallows or in deeper waters.  The system does come with different settings depending on your needs.

Not trying to hijack but to answer the question:  The original HDS-5 went belly up and a new one came in to replace it, transducer and all cabling were already in the boat so all I had to do was plug in the new head.  The transducer is not locked in rigid per the instructions, it tilts up and down just a bit so I'm thinking that could be the problem.  Next time I get down there I'll tighten the transducer to be parallel with the bottom of the hull and see if that eliminates the no reading below 1.7'

I still recommend the HDS-5 though but wish it was a 7 or a 10 for larger screen.
