Got my first baitcaster! Is there aline that is best suited for the baitcaster? Braid? Mono? Fluorocarbon? Or is it just personal preference and doesn't make a difference? Thanks!

Get used to the action of the reel before you get expensive line. I learned this the hard way, you will have plenty of backlashes to pick out while getting used to the reel. after you have gotten used to the reel then go to braided line or what ever you prefer. If you are happy with braid on your spinning reels then use braid on your new baitcaster. That is my recommendation, you have to make the decision on your own.

Once you get used to using baitcast, I highly recommend suffix 732. I personally use 8 lbs suffix 732 w 30 lb leader tied to a norton speed clip. That's what I prefer everyone is different.

I switched to power pro braid about 5 years ago and have not looked back, but like Lance said you gotta try it all out and make the decision yourself.

Good luck, Also when switching to a braid you will be learning some new knots... Inside the power pro box of braid there will be a few good examples to experiment with.

Palomar knot works well with Braid and you can reference it on the lower left hand corner of TFF screen under Fishing Knots.... Its got a step by step. Just FYI

I've used Power Pro 15# for the big brown trout for years, they just came out with a new "slick braid" or something like that but haven't used it.  Palomar knot is simple and I often wonder how it even holds up with braid but it does.  Palomar on the braid/swivel end (tie this first) then a good clinch knot for swivel/mono leader.  Oh, it works fine in saltwater as well.

Like the poster above said, use cheap line first till you get your "thumb muscle memory" working on that bait caster; then....go for whatever line you want.

EDIT:  Above I reference using a barrel swivel when joining braid to mono but, often, I use the uni to uni knot so as not to have a swivel.  Each work and it's just personal choice.  When I use a swivel the leader has to be about a foot shorter than when using a knot.

Power Pro is just what I use and other braids are just as good I'm sure.

I get power pro 15# in the 1500 yard spools so still have quite a bit but will check out the new version when I need more.

Just a thought but I must ask does anyone use a mono filler and then splice into braid to save $$.. and If you do what tips can you give me.. I have many reels and take beginners out alot and all my spare poles have mono on them and  the oyster reefs cut line and keep me busy re-rigging.

Never done that but I can see where it would make some sense.  I use braid all the way as it can be purchased in large spools pretty cheap.  I use Penn Battle 3000 reels that have the rubber insert in the spools so the braid holds without turning and no need for mono just to get spooled up.

I use the mono - braid with a mono leader. It does not matter about the line if it is dragged into oyster it is going to get cut. I start with a 7 to 8 foot mono leader, 20 lb test, and when it gets down to about 3 foot long I put on a new leader.

The connecting knot is a uni to uni on both ends of the braid. I am yet to loose a fish due to a broken leader. Here are some of my larger fish taken on 30 pound braid with a 20 pound shock leader and 12 pound backing line:
Sockeye salmon

50 inch, 55 pound king salmon

45 inch, 50 pound king salmon

42 inch, 45 pound king salmon

All of these were caught in the Moose River in Alaska, rods rigged with 12 pound backing line tied to 30 pound braid then tied off to a mono leader.

8 lb Stren or P-line mono with a 15 lb leader is all you need.

I use pwr pro 20 & 30 on my Penn fierce 2000/3000 40 on my Penn Sargus 4000 - both have braid ready.  The 40 should handle anything Mansfield or the Arroyo can throw at me.  The 20 on my little 2000 gives me enough to battle a good red without being spooled.  My biggest yet is 26" on it.  It's attached to a light action 6'6" trout killer rod.  I have and still use bps's brand of braid and it's been great as well.  P pro cast on bait casters a bit better.
