I am going to buy a trolling motor for my 210 Dargel Skout. I am going to get the 80 pound thrust 24v Minn Kota with the co pilot as a minimum. However my question is should I get one with the auto pilot or the Ipilot which has the gps in it. I will be using it in some canals and creeks in the Nueces and Aransas Bay area. Does anyone know the difference in all three of these and let give their opinions on the usefulness of each?

Having owned three trolling motors I have learned that simple is better.  Auto pilot, remote control and any other fancy, "cool" features are not necessary and provide additional reasons for break downs.

Keep it simple and you will be better off.

I am very happy with my newest plane Jane trolling motor.  When, not if, the saltwater finally claims it, the replacement cost will be tolerable.

Steve if you do alot of shore fishing and fllowing the same route the ipilot with gps is the way to go.It will tack the same track back or follow a old track.Combined with a power pole and the ipilot with prevent wading back to the boat all the way in some cases it will bring the boat right to you.Merry Fishmas!

Fishing the same spots I know exactly were and what you are talking about and getting lost is an option. I am embarrassed I have gotten lost in the back but most places are so shallow you cant make it back there anyway except during hurricane season on on extreme high tide off a full moon at a certain time of yr. I got that Riptide you set me up with and it a heck of a motor.
