December 11,2011 "Record Day" Best day all year! Caught a limit of Specks in the first 30 minutes of leaving the boat ramp, released most of them, knew there would be plenty more. I have been saying the fishing is getting better, now!! They are here!! First it was Specks, then it was Redfish and Specks. Then it was just Redfish. Then Big Specks and more Redfish!! Caught Fish from the Neches River to Sabine Lake. There must have been Hundreds of Birds today, have not seen that many this year. The shrimp do not seem like they are leaving either. I caught a 28" Speckled Trout, it was a horrible picture of me and the Trout curled up. Oh well, it was still 28" and released her to fight another day. There were a lot of 20" to 25" Trout not so lucky. Actually released quite a few 20"-24" Specks, because we reached our limit and fished for a couple of more hours. Caught one Redfish that broke off someones trot line (green nylon string and a circle hook) and released him again. We must have caught 75 plus Speckled Trout, and 40 plus Redfish. 95% of all the fish we caught were Texas Legal. Thought we had 6 Redfish, did not bother counting them again until we got back to the dock and realized we only had 5?? Caught everything on Texas Trout Killers (see pictures). They are Texas tough and hold up to a lot of fish. We left the fish biting around one o'clock. The way it looks, December is the best month of the year for big Speckled Trout and Slot Redfish. January might even be better! Sabine Lake is great in the Fall, but even better in the Winter. I have some openings right now, so if any body does not mind the cold mornings, the fishing is fantastic. For more pictures go to
