We got our insurance check in but it has my name and my mortgage companies name on the check is their anyway around dealing with the mortgage company since after the deductable and offsets and other things it wen from a 16k check to a 10k. Now I have to figure in the more important things to fist one is the roof. Anyone deal with this sort of stuff so we can freely remodel what really needs it and try to stay out of our own pocket?

Does the mortgage co pay your insurance?  They should not be on the check. I would make the insurance co write another check.

That happened to one of my co-workers...
Real simple....
Submit the quote for full amount and mortgage company will release funds.

That was my co-workers situation.

If you have a Mortgage the insurance come you and the Mortgage company,  Just went through it. Sent them the check, it paid off the mortgage and they sent me the leftover money to spend as I see fit.

Or you can get quotes for the work needed, send them the quote, when work is complete they release funds to pay the contractor.

Any way you go they got there finger in it?

If there is a lienholder (mortgage co.) insurance will normally cut the check to both parties.  That is to insure the mortgagor's interests are served by getting the necessary repairs done.  Usually works that way with both real estate and auto insurance.  To clarify, we had a business claim about three years ago due to an ice storm ruining the metal roof on our 5K sf building and the check was made out to both but mailed to us.  Just took the check to the bank where we did business and who held the note, they endorsed, deposited and we were free to get the repairs done as we saw fit, no intervention by them at all....worked out well as I had a commercial company repair the roof and I installed the insulation and new drop ceiling, pulled the old carpet and laid new floating floor over concrete slab.  Pocketed about $4K in the process but that compensated me for my labor.
