Howdy fellow fishing fools! I sit here this evening as I watch our Rangers start game three of the WS. If anyone recalls my last report, I mentioned my next day on the water would be on Tuesday. So what happened?? I'm so glad you asked.
Early Tuesday morning, I intently listened to the local talk radio station as they kept on warning of the pending and fast approaching cool front. They forewarned of 45 MPH winds that would greet the valley within the hour. soon after I'm standing wearily in front of the TV at the Rio Hondo Stripes watching the local weatherman repeat the same.
Ohhhh boy.... What to do. I decided to headed over to the Kingfisher Lodge where I am supposed to pick up my clients. As they came out of their room bright eyed and bushy tailed ready for a great day on the water, I rolled out the dismal news. I never like to make a decision to cancel a trip without discussing it with the clients unless I know for sure the weather will be absolutely too severe and could endanger their (our) lives. It didn't take long for them to agree with me that an hour of fishing wouldn't be worth the risk. I'm glad they decided to reschedule for November. Let's pray that day turns out better for them.
As the sun rose, I could see the dark clouds at the far distance. Ehh what the heck.... I'm here anyway. I launched and headed out by myself hoping to get at least on red for supper before the weather changed. I went out straight out the mouth of the arroyo and quickly began to send my lure out even before the boat came of plane. Five casts later, cha ching! Redfish was on and a couple minutes after that it went from free roaming fish to that evenings supper. I threw a few more casts and thought I should count my blessings and leave well enough alone. As I arrived back at the dock, the front was just arriving.

.
Interestingly enough, the heavy winds didn't come until about 2 hours later. For a moment I thought I had made a hasty decision to call off the charter until the winds reminded me it was the right call.
