I don't know who it was but somebody allegedly bought one or two flounder from a commercial flounder guy, and then claimed to have caught them during TIFT.

If they were caught cheating I personally think the following things should happen:
1) Prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.
2) Banned from the TIFT for life, without exception. They would not be allowed to be a team captain or even a team member.
3) Have a list maintained by the State to list all tournament cheaters caught, if you are caught your name goes on the  List of Shame. Caught meaning failed the polygraph and convicted in court.
4) Must do promotional spots on the tournament trail about the effects of cheating in the tournament.
5) Forfeiture of hunting and fishing license for a period of 10 years.

Call it harsh, cruel and unusual, or what ever you want: but unless a message is sent to the cheaters the problem will continue to persist. If I can make $1000 in two days and it will only cost me $200 if I get caught doing something wrong, it is only good business to keep doing what I am doing.

There are some laws in place to prosecute people for cheating, it's up to tournament personnel to contact authorities.. I'm betting TIFT organizers did if the rumor is true.

How do people sleep when they do this?  Does it mean that much to their egos and wallet? I agree..once caught they should be banned for life..FROM ANY TOURNAMENT!!  Just like sexual predators.. there should be a website where these people should be listed.  Just My two cents.  Right jeff??

this is exactly why i turn down all offers to do tournaments. I hate them because of the cheating involved.  if there is money involved, you can bet the rats come out to cheat.

one of the last tournaments i entered had a division for pro and amatuers and it was a lure only competition for the pro side.  i lost by 2 ounces to another captain from Port isabel which i didn't mind too much.  What i did mind a whole lot was that this guy brought in a 28 1/8 inch red in and had it on ice for a few hours trying to shrink in so he could turn that fish in.  Anyone find this fishy?  he was at the dock with an oversized redfish that was untagged just so he could try to weigh this fish in.  Pathetic!   it wasn't exactly cheating but it was illegal and the tournment organizers said nothing!   Angry

Guy's I don't like cheaters no more than anyone else, I'd just caution naming people or bashing anyone on the internet without solid proof because it could lead to a liable situation for you or even worse.

I presonnal think all these tourneys out of s.p.i. are all rigged. kind of like a synidicate. They make the tourneys and already have there winners. just my 2 cents. Y dont these guides from s.p.i. just register at s.p.i. tournys and not at the arroyo or port mansfield? Think i make cents.. Smells really fishy...

Oh well, to each is own. I wasn't there to win, but more to fish with my family.  My two girls had a blast and it got my wife out of the shopping malls for a couple of days. There is no honor in cheating, and money is the root of all evil. Life goes on.

I agree with Lance they should be put on a list and banned from any tournaments, boats, kayak , or any fishing tournaments. The organizers of the tournys should take more precautions from this happening. They should check haul of boats or yaks before they launch & also have eyes on water.. Roll Eyes

They should be prosecuted to the fully extension that the law allows.http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/12/us/12fish.html
