Hey guys! I'm new here and I have a question about Flatstalkers.  I read a thread already in this forum but since the thread was over 120 days old, it was suggested that I start a new thread.

I like to fish in the Laguna Madre but cant afford a flats boat at the moment. The Flatstalker seems like a good alternative but do I need a trailer? Can I just put it in the back of the truck? There is one for sale in Brownsville I want to go see and it comes with a trolling motor. About how far can I go out from the launch site with this boat?

Yes you can easily haul a flststaler in the bed of a pick-up.  Be sure to get a trolling motor. They are impossible to push or paddle in the wind.

The distance you can go from the launch site depends on the battery. There are several different batteries out there but you want to make sure you get a deep cycle battery designed for trolling motors.

I went to Academy and bought a Stow-Away battery for my Ocean Kayak Torque and was limited to about 2-3 miles total trip. I was told I should have bought the Optima Blue Top.

I think you'd be much better off buying a good fishing sit on top kayak. Also, a kayak has a much lower profile than a Flatstalker and it's more versatile than a Flatstalker. With a kayak, you can paddle long distances, fish lakes, large rivers, marshes, flats, bays, and even offshore (as long as you can see land). The high seat of the Flatstalker will catch a lot of wind causing you problems.

What about a SUP?  I have never been on one but this one looks interesting.  It seems a lot lighter than than a flats stalker.  I went to the beach last week and I saw a guy using one on the surf, It seemed fun so I decided to check them out on the web, this is what I found.

They have one rigged with a yeti cooler.  Looks cool.

Hobie mirage drive kayak over a flatstAlker no need for battery cost near the same, good exercise. I had a revolution but my 90hp beat it. If I didn't own a boat I would still own it or a different model they came out with after the revolution. Awesome kayaks.

That is a neat lookin craft. I looked on there site.  It is $1500 + paddle + yeti.  They have priced theirselves out in my book. I have owned 6 different yaks and the most I ever spent eas $900.

I too think the SUP is a nice paddleboard, but at $1500, I think it's over priced as well.

The Stand N Fish looks nice, but in a moderate wind of 10-15 mph, the structure is going to catch a lot of wind and it's going to make paddling not very enjoyable. The structure will make the kayak weathercock depending on which way the window is blowing towards. Also, the pontoons don't lift too far out of the water. A good amount of waves is going to be slapping the bottom of the pontoons.

Where I mostly fish, the wind starts blowing at sunrise. Three examples are below. Click on the links and watch the wind speed and direction for a few minutes.
