Hello everyone,

I'm new to Kayaking and don't know any friend with Kayaks and I would really like to go fishing with someone that could show me the ropes. I live in the San Benito area if anyone doesn't mind me tagging along give me a shout. Thanks

i really want to try it... i was thinking of renting one at the island and launching it by the convention center...the thing is i really do know anything about it, im a big guy about 250 on a good day, so will the yak hold me up? and is that a good place to fish and launch? i really want to try it first before i fully commit to it, any advice?

There are "big boy" sit on top fishing kayaks. One of them that comes to mind is a Malibu X-Factor and I think it's "the best" of the big boy yaks. One of my internet friends weighs 300 pounds and it supports him and all his fishing gear with ease. He fishes "beyond the breakers" in the Gulf of Mexico.

See if the rental place has a Malibu X-Factor. The link to the yak is below. Once on the page, below the photo of the X-Factor, there is something called "Highlights" in white letters. To the right of that, click on "Features/Specs" to see the important stuff like length, width, physical weight of the yak, carrying capacity in pounds, etc.

If you go to UB Captain, I don't think he has Malibu. I know he carries Hobie and Ocean Kayak.
SPIKE (South Padre Island Kayak Enterprises) carries Wilderness System & Malibu.

Both of those guys are great people to work with and will treat you right.
