I unscrewed the hose connecter on my engine this morning and there was a ring of ice in the connector. The motor is trimmed down. I have not heard of freeze damage to an outboard. Has anybody had any outboards sustain freeze damage?

I asked the same question a while back, the answer I got is no, you typically don't have to worry about it on an outboard however, Me, my boat, is non-typical even though it is just like 10,000 others made. On my motor I have a fresh water rinse where you just connect a water hose to flush the motor, I'm sure you have it or seen it before. What I do is unscrew this connector and let drain, it holds a pretty good amount of water, were the water backs up to I have no idea, well I do, but could be wrong, but probally not... Other than that, I do nothing and have not had any problems so far (knock on wood) (and knock on wood again). My boat sets outside but I do have it covered.

If anyone is still wondering about this,  I have had my boats in Montana and north dakota before moving to purgatory(omaha).  If you drain your outboard, in my experience, you will have no problems.  Just let it rest in running position on the trailer for a few minutes, until the water stops running down.  That should be all you need to do ther, unless you lay up over winter.  I use mine until the water gets hard in the fall, so I know this works on ole's stuff
