We are about to close the chapter "Permit" soon. But before we do lets reflect a little on how we came to this point in time which will go down in the history books. The first time ever, three permits submitted, our passes have had an hydraulic analysis done, an environmental impact assessment which included a habitat characterization, the endangered species, salinity assessment, a monitoring plan, the purpose and need for the project and the nature of activity. Hundred's of thousands of dollars, thousands of comment letters from you and just about that from the agencies. Thousands of acres of wetlands gone, cranes dead, fisheries going away, people dead, salt pans in the bayou and slough, never before seen until now and the destruction of an entire fishing fleet and a county just barley keeping its head above water. I think I would call this chapter, Abuse of Authority To Obtain an Improper End. The next chapter I think I will call it " A New Beginning, The Rebirth. Very, very soon, the passes, Cedar Bayou and Vinson Slough, will be given a new lease on life. All the benefits that these passes can provide will come to pass as they them selves breathe new life to this seven bay system. We all saw the need for these passes, you never gave up, never gave in and we all stood our ground, took back what was taken away. This could not have been done without you. I hope that one day when our kids and grand kids hear about these passes, that they speak fondly of their Dad, Grandpa, Mother, Sister, Brother, and Friends and how they fought to get them back because they knew it was the right thing to do. The next time you hear from me, it will be that we will be going to the Next Chapter. After years of waiting, a hard fought battle, our beloved passes will be renewed again. It will be very, very soon. Until then, remember what it was, how we got here and what it will be, thanks to all of you. Until Then.
