Its a shame, if the Bass family wanted this pass open it would have already been done, money buys power! I still do not feel that CCA has pushed as hard as they should, they have a very powerful lobby effort, and they have not used it to push for Cedar bayou to reopen. I do not think I will rejoin them until I start seeing a valant effort on their part to lobby for this cause and I urge everyone else to do the same. We as individuals can send stuff to the media, and it will be ignored, but when an organization as large as CCA starts speaking the media along with our elected officials will also listen.

Maybe CCA members should start writing emails to remind the CCA what CCA means.  I have written them to let them know if they don't start screaming at the top of there lungs about this issue then they will not hear from me when it comes time for my membership renewal.  I bet if enough CCAers let the CCA know how we felt on this issue, they would pull there heads out of the sand and maybe speak up.

Perhaps you guys have additional insight into the Bass Family's feelings on opening Cedar Bayou. Or maybe there really is a secret conspiracy brewing. But I have no evidence of this.
This is from my Oct. 6 column on Cedar Bayou.
"After addressing a laughable litany of concerns during this process, the project received additional objections earlier this year from several state and federal agencies along with a couple eleventh-hour concerns from the Bass family, who owns San Jose Island.
The issues presented by the Bass family were minor, mostly involving spoil placement and impeded access to the north end of their island. Aransas County’s pro bono champion for this project, Carlos Swonke, an environmental planner with Blanton & Associates in Austin, tells me these issues have been resolved."
I have no reason to believe otherwise. I have a copy of the letter to the Corps from the Bass family attorney. And it doesn't sound to me like their objections are insurmountable. Plus, I'm told everything has been resolved with the Bass Family's concerns. If the family is blocking the project behind the scenes, please show me some proof and I'll look into it.

Now, regarding the suggestions that CCA is trying to block the reopening of Cedar Bayou, I cannot address this theory directly. But I can tell you that CCA was among the original groups that donated $10,000 to Save Cedar Bayou for the engineering work in 2005. I'm not defending all of CCA's work. In fact I disagree with some of the organization's more recent policies and positions. But in the beginning, CCA favored the opening of Cedar Bayou. I attended the meeting when CCA pledged the $10,000.

OK that was in 2005..................It's 2011 and I haven't heard anything from the CCA.  They can TALK all day long but until they take action now (not 2005) my support for them will come to an end.  The opening of Cedar Bayou is a huge subject of conservation that they should be spearheading.....and SCREAMING about.  Nobody said they were trying to block the opening of Cedar Bayou.  All we are saying is they need to speak up on the subject that so many of there members are concerned about. If you know something is wrong but you keep your mouth shut about that wrong, then you are just as guilty as the ones commiting the wrong.

Let's keep this civilized and not start bashing each other. I see both points of view and respect them.

Hello all.  I have been reading this site for a while.  I am active on another site.  You might have seen some of my questions before as Driftwoodfisher.  I was at the flotilla in October.  I believe we need to stay focused on the issue at hand.  I do believe that with the ground work that Lynn has brought forth we can prevail.  Talking to the politicians will help.  Mr. Jim Smarr is a wealth of information (RFA).  Lets stay united and we will prevail.   Get involved and don't stop until the wrong has been corrected.  Open up Cedar Bayou and Vinsion Slough.

CCA donates 10K toward a feasibility study a number of years ago. A nice head fake but remember, in the grand scheme of their total budget that 10K is like a cab fare tip. Their silence has been deafening. If anyone thinks they are on board for the re-opening, think again. I mentioned on an earlier post that this was the primary reason I bailed on my membership. I am pleased to hear other members also have seen through the smokescreen. Believe me, if they really got behind this issue I would re-up, but my principles prevent me from further support. There is not any other issue on the Texas coast more critical in importance than the re-opening of CB/VS. Period.

Remember what NMFS said about the blue crab's and the whooping cranes??? I quote: Claiming that the applicant's consultant overstated the importance of Cedar Bayou and the blue crab recruitment and productivity and disputing the project's benefit to blue crab populations and the whooping cranes population. Roll Eyes Big brother has lost all touch. I know that they read this board, sooooo, read it big brother and learn something.
