Very good encouraging article in today's Rockport Pilot.
Go to Rockportpilot.com, find Cedar Bayou article.   It looks as if the Bass family is welling to cooperate with the opening.   Maybe things will start to move.

First time I ever went there was back in the mid '70s. Boat traffic was restricted near the mouth. I understood that the reason was to encourage the best possible migrations of all marine life coming through as undisturbed as possible. I think it's a good idea, especially when you consider how  much damage has been done and how long the "healing process" is going to take.

So in the late 80's to 98 when i used to park the boat and walk a country mile to fish the surf there was trespassing.I'm all about marine life and all but has there been a study on boat traffic and migration ???This whole problem is the result of fresh water or the lack of it since we started daming up all the river's and creeks.

In 1998 TPWD passed the Fish proclamation which restricted any obstructions in fish passes. No boats beyond that point which was 2800 feet from the Gulf mouth. Cedar Bayou is a fish pass. TPWD did not want any boats running out to the Gulf by way of Cedar Bayou. The sign was up before then but was passed in 1998. The other thing that the Bass's ask was to put a sign in Vinson Slough, just like Cedar Bayou. I to do not have a problem with that, but it will have to be 2800 from the Gulf as Cedar Bayou was. Old Plugger, you will not be trespassing by any means. That still is your beach, you just can't run your boat out to the Gulf mouth.

I have known about that letter for some time and I wanted to say something so bad, but was ask not to until Judge Mill's made the press release. No one will ever know how I have watched and waited for this day. I want to say tonight, how proud I am of all of you. You made this happen. I would like you to look at your loved ones, your friends and tell each other that you did this with integrity, innovation and determination. You were dedicated to restoring these passes for the future of all. I know that our best days are ahead of us. We are at the threshold of an historic event that will build a better future for all of the fishermen, women, and those kiddo's. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you. All that is left now is to get that permit, and go fishing. Hope to see you on Friday.

There is also an article on the Corpus Christi Caller website by David Sikes.  He mentioned that when the COE issues a permit, then the funds need to be found to open Cedar Bayou.   I thought that the funds were there and just waiting for the permit.  Lynn, could you answer the question regarding the funds.
Thanks ..............

Txredfish, Like everything with this project, nothing come,s easy. The money is out there, we just have to go for it. There are a lot of people out there working on this issue, and one way or another, we will get this funded. Your right however, we must have that permit to get funded. I have been working on getting the funding for this project and things so far look real good. What I heard today over at Cedar Bayou did give me a very good feeling about that. I spoke with Col. Chris Sallese as we walked over to the sand dam and I learned that we in fact have better days ahead of us all. I have to say something about this young man. He did something that should have been done years ago and that was to look at the problem for him self. I do believe that he will be issuing that permit very soon. I also have to say that his Mother brought him up right. He was a very nice young man, and a damn fine Col. He was a matter of fact man and not trying to talk around in circles. He was a breath of fresh air. BIG guy, and with a big job to do and I think he will do very well. Everything was great today and I came home for the first time in a very long time feeling very good about what I heard, burnt like crazy, not feeling to dog gone good from that long walk over to the dam, hot, my God it was hot. Got to see Jeff and that great boat of his. I am hopeing that Jeff will post some pic's for all of you and tell you his take on the get together today. I will post more later, but for now and in a very long time I am going to bed and stay there for a couple of days. Grin We are going to bring them back.

Lynn,
Great job and the same for all the others involved in this battle.   Things are really looking good for the flow to begin at Cedar Bayou.   But of course, it won't be finished until the flow begins................
