For years we have been trying to get a permit, restore a seven bay system, and thousands of dollars later, the FWS, TPWD and the CORPS has crippled this county, destroyed wetlands, killed Whooping Cranes, killed off the crops, put business's out of business, and killed how many people and maimed others. Before any thing can get better, they need to go. I mean get gone, go on down the road. This county should throw these people out! Close down the office's of TPWD and send them on there way. Don't give them one more dam dollar, just a pink slip. Let me tell you why I have had enough. After months of FWS reviewing the last questions and answers, they sent there approval to the CORPS, (run out of things to throw at us). Then the people at the CORPS came up with another ideal to delay the permit, (access through Mesquite). So we changed the access route to go in though the Gulf. But OHHHHH, now what?Huh? FWS now wants us to pull the grass out of Cedar Bayou and plant it is another spot. OK, we told them what we were going to do, BUT, No, FWS said any place but not on the Whooping Crane habitat. I guess they have not killed enough yet, and we have not spent enough of our hard earned money. All of you out there know full well that this is over the top. These people are out of control and they need to get their wake up call along with their pink slip. The elected officials that gave them the power to kill need to be gone. We need to start at the top, our Governor. What has he done to fix anything? He knows about this problem, but has not said or done one thing about it. Lets go on down the line and look at our Congressman, Senators and Repersentives, state and Fedreal, not one word in public have any of them said a thing. Oh No, they have let these people run wild and screw up what ever they can. Well enough is enough, run their rears out of town. We the people need to do what we know is the right thing. Clean house and start fixing the problems. We need to have our own Tea Party. We need to let these people know that they are not going to kill anything any more. Lets get together and get this party planned out. Call Jeff, Lance or me and let's hand out those pink slips. I know that times are hard right now, and they will get harder if we don't do something right now. We are a can do people. Lets move!!!

Lynn, I agree with you 100%.  What happened to the great support from Judge Mills and Todd Hunter.   Can't they get these stupid delays from happening?  It is very obvious that the FWS is only trying delay tactics hoping that everyone behind the project will lose the funding and give up this needed project.............

I do know that Judge Mills has had it with everyone of these people and he is with us 100%. He is willing to do what ever it takes to get these passes open. He has been run over just like they ran over me or tried to. Thats why they pushed me out and got the county involved. But, Mills is not to be messed with. Hunter, will I don't know about him. He will tell you that he supports this project but has yet to speak out about it in open public. Hunter could and should do something about this issue and soon. Attached is the last thing that was said by the CORPS. You tell me what is going on here. They still need to go and go now.

I am starting to lean toward a view that commercial flounder giggers and guides who are croaker soakers have wiped out your area more than the closing of a couple of passes.

Old Plugger, remember that some of these young folks don't know that there is only 30 commercial flounder giggers left on the whole Texas coast. And I would be willing to bet that bigrggiii doesn't even know what a croaker soaker really is, so please lets educate this young man. He is after all in Brownsville and they don't have the Mother of all passes in their backyard. He does not know that without these passes (all passes) fishing would be all but gone for all, including him. In time he will get a leason of a life time. I feel so sorry for the young fishermen of today. They will never know what a great day of fishing really is. They will never know about these two historic passes and the many benifits that they can provide. I would bet that he would eat a platter of farmed raised shrimp. Wink I hope that bigrggiii will come on up to Cedar Bayou and Vinson Slough and see what all the fuss has been about. That day will stay with him for a life time.

bigrggiii, you have been invited to come up and see for your self what is happening in and around CB/VS.
The bay system around Rockport could use another good lawyer to help further our cause.

First let me ask where is the media coverage of the events of the last few weeks? I called David Sikes 2 weeks ago he knew nothing of what is going on. Second I think there should be some kind of a meeting after media coverage or visaversa to get the word out. Trey you need to gather some facts. TPWD has studies that cleary show what you are saying is not right. Although guided trips on average catch a few more fish per day it is not as signifigant as you think only a couple of fish per day. The overwhelming amount of fish are caught on non guided trips mainly due to the amount of unguided days on the water compared to guided. For every good guide there are hundreds of good fisherman who are not guides. For every guide useing bait of any kind there are hundreds of fisherman catching fish also with bait. To top that off there are many more trout caught with shrimp and piggy perch than by croker. Sounds to me like you want every body to fish artifical the impact would be devasating. Croker catches are what is keeping our bay shrimpers working year round . The amount of income to the state for 3 day fishing license is huge. On my boat alone I would estimat 60 to 70 percent of the people use 3 day license at least 250 x$20 thats $5000 thats just 1 boat times that buy 600 full time guides Thats 3 million dollars Come on look at the big picture Bigree trey Lets get the bayou open and then you will see what happenswhen life returns to our waters. You got your pass open and the fish have returned also there are many different reasons for this that being one of them.

I only fish around Rockport and Port-A once or twice a year, and all I hear is people complaining about the passes.  I never hear anybody owning up to the fact that recreational fisherman are putting more and more pressure on the fishery every year.

What about Baffin Bay?  It ain't got no passes, but the lack of pressure over the years has kept it a trout hotspot.  That too is starting to change as recreational anglers are starting to look to Baffin to catch their fish ever since Rockport has been plum fished out.

Again, I say cut the trout limits way down and see the Rockport area flourish again.

That might work for trout bigrggiii, but what about the shrimp, crab, and other bait fish that the trout need to survive? What do you propose we do to get those back? How about the 50+ Whooping Cranes that starved to death a year or so ago? How do you propose we insure their survival? I mean if there were blue crab swimming through Cedar Bayou that might have been avoided.

I see what your trying to do and I agree pressure might be a part of the problem, but there's a BIGGER picture that your missing.

I would actually support lowering limits if I knew that would fix everything, but until we see some scientific numbers on blue crab, shrimp numbers, and water quality due to lost wetlands, lowering the limits would be a knee jerk reaction that might not accomplish anything at all.

Again I point to Baffin.  How does that system support huge trout populations without any passes?

It's a completely different bay system that's fed by both the upper and lower laguna madre and completely unique with it's rocks etc. You can't compare the two.

Where do you think they are getting those croakers from? I'm willing to bet they are not coming from the bays that are directly affected by Cedar Bayou being silted in and closed off to the gulf.  Just a few years ago you could stand in ankle deep, clear water and watch the croaker, mullet, crabs, stingrays swim by, all types of species of fish ( trout, redfish, flounder, mangrove,Spanish mackerel etc. to just name a few. Heck I think the snook were even pushing their way back to this part of the coast)., On the beach even the sand/ghost crabs were happy campers in paradise.
Now......Now there is NO to very little life on the Beach or in Cedar Bayou/Vinson Slough and as stated the bays
(Mesquite,Carlos, St.Charles, Copano...etc.) that are directly affected by Cedar being silted in and closed 0ff to the Gulf is affected and anyone that denies that is either plain dumb or in denial or paid off.
THE ANSWER TO THIS IS TO OPEN THE PASS, BUT SOMEONE IS STANDING IN THE WAY/BLOCKING the permit to be granted and for work to begin to restore one of the most beautiful places along the Texas Coast.  It appears that they Do Not care that they are destroying entire bay systems, wetlands, marine life and on and on the list grows. Selfish, Just plain and Simple.....SELFISH!!!!!!!!

I don't fish that area anymore but I do remember back in the late 70's & early 80's of having stringers so full of large fish that it would take 2 grown men (minimum) to pull it into the boat after a day of fishing. We would head out in the morning with 6-7 people on the boat and limit on large trout, reds, drum and even put a few flounder on that stringer as well.

We would vacation for 4-5 diays in the area and go out twice a day and just load up on fish then spend a couple hours at the cleaning tables before we had lunch and go back out till about 7pm and repeat the process of acouple hours at the cleaning tables before supper and getting to sleep that night.

With that pass closed I have found it hard to find fish in the area so I have quit fishing the area al together.
