We took the kids out fishing today. Fished the south shore using live shrimp. Caught a few Specks (no keepers) two black drum keepers, and two redfish keepers. We actually caught quite a few redfish, but most were in the 17-19 inch range. We also tried some Oyster reefs but no lick there at all. The water was pretty muddy, but we could see the reds way up in the flat cuts feeding. We put the first bait in at sunup, and fished until noon.

Watched quite a few waders fishing near us, but didn't see any of them catch anything. We also tried artificials of various type with no luck.

Me with one of the red keepers (21inch)

Agreed Honulea. Taking the kids fishing is always a good day. My youngest girl is 14 now. Took her, my nephew (13) my best buddy, and his two daughters. The boat was a bit crowded, but everybody had a good time. My nephew did really good today. I have to take him home Sunday, but he's already asked when he can come back for a weekend to go fishing again. He had been fishing once before this summer on a lake, and had never been saltwater fishing, so I spent the first fishing trip this summer teaching him what little I know. I've been taking my daughter fishing since she was about 4 (bank fishing lakes and rivers) Just bought her a new rod and reel. Castaway medium casting with a ABU Garcia Abumatic 700i. She seems to do a lot better with that so she's happy now too.
Unfortunately, with my work, I never know when I'm going to have time off.

Man, you have to MAKE time to take that kid of yours fishing!  She won't be a "kid" forever.

I took my two little cousins fishing a few months back in the little saltys tournament in Matagorda.  I spent most of the day as a guide but it was by far one of the best trips I've been on.  They get so excited to catch a fish regardless of size or breed.  I've never had a bad time when I take the little ones out.
