Ok, so I have the blessings of both the GLO and the HOA to install the boat lift I have been eyeing.

The fact that Jim's Pier raised their ramp fee to $15.00 and will now charge to park your trailer in the lot across from my condo makes the lift even more attractive.

The Pros are numerous. 

The Cons as I see it are this:  Either pay a premium for fuel at Jim's or pull it out every time it needs fuel.  I wouldn't have the mobility to pull the boat around the Texas coast.  Tarping it in the lift might be a pain.

Play devil's advocate for me: let me hear some reasons why a lift might not be a good option.

how much fuel  does you boat hold? maybe look into a portable fuel container. do you use a tarp or cover? covers are not that hard to put on when its on a lift.  just my .02

I have my boat on a lift in liv and it's great. The only con is I like to fish out of arroyo.

I actually have a custom tarp made for my boat, so I would have to strap it on every time - or at least when I was going to be gone for longer than a week or two.  I wouldn't be able to use the cover you suggested as it would block the view of some of the condos along the bay.  However, I do like that portable fuel tank.  It seems that it would pay for itself fairly quickly.

OK guys, c'mon!  Tell me why I shouldn't invest the money in a lift.  Bring it!

Pros: Convenience, time saving, no loading and unloading on the trailer, won't hurt you back hooking up to the trailer, less wear and tear on your trailer, Boat Less likely to be stolen. It's in plain site, so it is easier to decide if you want to go in the AM or PM. Convenience for your fellow TTF buddies.


Cons:  Don't see any

Will the HOA have a place to store your trailer near by at the condo or are you gonna have to pay to store it in a open storage lot "like a mini storage facility"?

I'm all for installing a boat lift. What type of lift are you eyeing? Does your slip have an electrical outlet? Are you going solar? I got the green light from my HOA and GLO also and will be looking at installing one in the near future. Still working on getting a new boat.

You don't need to over do on the working on new boat part. I'll even deliver it for you with the drum of E-Tec oil. You know it will get you to any were you wanna fish in LLM.

BTW; if I had a water front home, I would forsure have a boat lift.

I have a question for the boat lift guys; Do ya'll ever flush your outboards? I have always move on from buying a boat that I know it's been in a boat lift all it's life, on fears of the motor water jackets being ate up by salt. As soon as my boat comes out of the water, I run it threw a car wash in Matatgorda with a hose flush; then I run it on the hose at home the next day and hand wash my boat from one end to the other after each trip.

As soon as my boats in the lift and everyones off, I always flush the motor and wash off the boat. Boats are too expensive to not take time to care for it properly.

I am looking to install a Hewlitt Boat Lift.  It is a manual lift, but geared so that it is very easy to use.  One of my neighbors has one already.

I do have electricity on my dock, although I cannot have an electric lift per HOA by laws.

As for trailer storage, I would simply pull it back to McAllen and keep it here.

James, I took a ride on Pkee's boat yesterday and I'm 99% I'll be getting the South Bay 200 HPD (if Bill at ****** Marine acts right)  . If I didn't need the extra people room I would have bought your boat already......fine rig!

if i were someone who had access to having a lift i would definatly go that rought. 


i have got to comment on the jims pier thing though and i cant believe no one has yet.  what is jims pier thinking?  are they just not wanting anyone at all to put their boat in there.  to me, that's waterway robbery!!!!!

TX TX RDS condo is at La Solano.  Bay side just north of Jim's pier, block or so… Has Red Tile Roofs…. Park and walk along sea wall, you should be able to see it.
