Just to fill in some blanks, I have the 7th Shallow Sport 18 ever built, and with a 1995 200 HP carb. Yahama, it ran 59.6 mph on a radar gun in the east cut and then backed it up the other way. At that speed the front end gets really light and will stand up in a sudden gust. I now have a Yahama 175 hpdi that only runs 54 mph on gps.

thats fast for a 18'. I second the lanyard wearing. I have a 16' that goes 6 mph on a good day (clocked with my gps) with fresh arms and a strong wind at my back.

At that speed ... sounds like you're missing a lot of fish ... slow down, breath ... enjoy life & drift.

Well...that's faster than a lot of 19' bass hulls with 200's on them. Big flat bottom tunnel hull going that fast is quite a rare bird. http://www.rbbi.com/folders/prop/propcalc.htmTypical shallow sport w/200 I've run with a 18" flats prop running very efficient at 10% is *maybe* 50 mph, and that's totally light, 3 gallons of fuel and a tail wind...but that's really no matter, you can set one up to hit a few more mph, but holeshot and planing depth will suffer if you do.

That prop calculator link is a BS filter, it's going to be within a mph of the *truth*...
"So pards, what prop you running? 18" powertech? Wow, you're turning that thing 7,400 rpms? I'm impressed"
25 years of listening to "highway patrol radar speed" claims that fell apart when it's called upon makes one a little suspicious. What our friend doesn't understand, there is a serious loss of speed on a big tunnel hull, the faster you go, the more suction the tunnel creates, which sucks the hull to the water that much more, and you will hit the wall of ability. But that would get in the way of a good story, right?
