I'm taking a trip to SPI in mid august with my girlfriend. We'll def be doing some serious fishing but it will also be a R&R trip for her too. I've never been that south before and am pretty unfamiliar with the area, I usually stick to rockport and port A. Any suggestions for reasonably priced lodging (under 100 a night), good community fishing holes, and activities/restaurants to hit would be great.
Thanks, Steve

Thanks Marker 150 for that site. There is a ton of info on there. I'm more interested in the local opinion of some of you guys that live or frequent SPI. What are some of your favorite places to stay, eat, maybe even a few community holes to drop a line Thanks, Steve

Along the Bayside near Louie's Back yard is several outdoor type food/bar type places ( Palm Street Pier, Sunset Bar and Grill Wahoo's, Steamers to name a few) I like Palm Street, but all are great.
I don't know about places to stay <$100, (wrong time of year) but motels on Gulf BLVD are usually the cheapest. If you are bringing a boat, Jim's Pier is a good place for bait, gas and/or guidance. I just checked LKT is Aug, 6 to 8th.

Thanks again for that info Marker. I'll def check those places out. Unforunatley it is gonna be difficult to find a place to stay sub $100, but we're gonna try. I'd also consider staying a few miles away and driving in for the day if that would be worth while.
I won't be bringing a boat. I just graduated from UT in may, so this trip is in celebration of that. But I will be doing some fishing. Is the isla blanca jetty worth a shot?

I personally like Dirty Al's for a place to eat at the Island. I highly recommend the shrimp stuffed jalapeno as an appitizer.

Try Orbitz or Priceline. You can probably find something in the sub 100 range.. Daddy's makes some darn good fried shrimp for a reasonble price. Those places along the bay can be quite pricey for folks on a budget.. If you like surf fishing you might drive up the beach and try your luck. The farther north you go the more privacy you get. You can certainly get some R&R with a couple of good chaise lounge chairs and a cooler full of your favorite beverages. Might even catcha couple of fish..

That sounds prime tommyboy. I think we're going to stay at the best western la copa inn. I got it for 70 a night. Seemed a little too good to be true though lol

Was out fishing with a buddy who is renting a space for his trailer on Long Island Village and the lady he is renting from also has some parkmodels she rents for, I believe he said $85 a night. I can get you the number if you'd like. I rented a place there for our trailer last year and it is really nice, has a pool, pool tables, small golf course, and a rec hall. It is in Port Isabel on the street right before crossing the causeway.

Hi! You might even consider looking into Long Island Village which is a private island on the Port Isabel side. It has loads of great things to do and many of the rentals there are on the water, some with boat lifts. Best part is that it's quiet, secured and even the best places are under $100 a night. I live there and love it! Call 1-800-292-7261 Their website is www.longislandvillage.comGood luck!

I go down there alot seastriker, and the best for me, but i always have a boat with me, is White Sands on the Port Isabel side they are always about $70 a night and they have boat slips. I will look into Long Isalnd Village though that sounds good too. But anywhere on the island itself is over priced in my opinion, this time of year. If you dont have a boat the jetties and the piers are good as well as the surf. Also if you go down the island toward the North you can wade or fish from the bank around the convention center. I hope this info helps and have a good trip
